MOOD INDIGO--an experience of a lifetime

Mood I -the magical, youthful, energetic event organized by IITB students....

The journey started with some great experience, actually we were planning to travel by train to Mumbai, we reached platform without ticket and got caught!!!!!!!!!!!! It was very hard to convince Officer that we had no intention to travel without ticket...but finally we managed to convince him and caught the train but we forgot that train are usually late and we entered in wrong train...and then we reached Mumbai by the way hardly anybody would have from Pune.
PUNE-LONAVALA-KARJAT-THANE-KANJURMARG-POWAI (It took nearly 6 hrs for just 166 kms!!!!)

Then we saw absolutely huge campus of IITB, 111-acre campus in MUMBAI!!!! There were college-going students everywhere; the whole atmosphere was full with energy we forget all the strain, all efforts.

On 26th Dec, festival started with Panel discussion, after an hour of thought provoking discussions the true festival started with bands, jazz and songs. Pankaj Udhas's gazal nite, The Great Indian Laughter show added all the flavors, all the colors to this festival. On 27th Dec., the day I enjoyed the most at Powai, there was KAY KAY night, he is simply amazing singer, has a great stage presence, he touched everyone’s' heart by a song 'YAAD AYENGE YEH PAL’. Crowd went mad everyone switched on his cell phone and waved hid hand in air, it was awesome .it looked like the stars in the sky ...hoooooo. I have no words to explain this. It was phenomenal, sensational. Then Kailash Kher rocked next day with 'TERI DIWANI','ALLAH KE BANDHE', and ‘SIKANDAR’.

There were many competitions, many games. (I won a T-shirt). I think everyone must enjoy MOOD-I at least once because he can forget the stress, strain (specially because of engineering results which usually doesn't have any connection with intelligence). Truly to summarize the above I would say 'HUM RAHEIN YA NA RAHEIN KAL YAAD AYENGE YEH PAL'

Being an engineering student particularly an EnTC student I was eagerly waiting for something to happen that would take me to the ride of glorious world of applied electronics or practical electronics...
R.S.C(robotics study circle) gave me this golden chance and I realized that beyond there is a world I never knew of inauguration ceremony I could understand basics of robotics.
I must say that my curiosity was shaken ,brain started working and again started asking questions "Why?","How?".
I think due to tutorials ,end sem exams I was limiting myself to the questions those could be asked in exams..
Now there are no limits, no restrictions I just have to participate and gain knowledge that does not have any boundaries...
I was introduced to the various robots in ROBOCON ,which were very intelligently built ,but I was deeply hurt when I came to know India's best I.I.T.'S robot not even getting qualified for secondary round so there is a lot of scope for improvement, and we must do it ..

DURGA..

As all Pune collegians know -a food destination,friends katta..
Basically I am very food loving person ,a typical Puneri Khawaiyya..
But I must confess that eventhough I had joined N.M.K class in my 11th ,12th ,on 16 July 2006 I visited the place for first time..!!!
Yeah and I certainly realized that 2 years of my life at N.M.K. are wasted. When I entered there was a great rush of collegians..
Atmosphere was simply awesome,friends' company made it even more youthful and enthusiast.
Then taste of cold coffee with masala pav;nostalgic,I am not able to find any words to describe it.
Though coffee was (don't ever compare with CCD)very well made and cheaper too.
But what I found more than food what made Durga a hot favourite is its feel like college katta.
If you haven't visited Durga yet then don't waste your precious time in life go and taste it...

ENGINEERING COLLEGE RATINGS:

There's been an amazing response to my previous post asking engineering students to help JAM with its Engineering College Rating exercise.That's the good news. The bad news is the task is so gigantic that we aren't actually going to publish a comprehensive national/ statewise rating this year. We will only be publishing Mumbai, Delhi and possibly Pune ratings. These happen to be our biggest markets as a print magazine and we've been tracking institutes here long enough to pronounce judgement with confidence and credibility. Of course, we're also conducting a physical reccee as well as interviewing students and experts to reach our conclusions.But the process of data collection for the larger exercise has begun. All those of you who wrote in to me will receive the questionnaire shortly.The MethodologyHowever, there are larger issues which we are also debating. For example, the methodology. There are currently two engineering college rankings being published:
1) Dataquest-Nasscom : This survey considered 4 parameters-placement, infrastructure, intellectual capital and industry interface. Recruiter's feedback on the institute is taken into consideration.The weights were distributed as:
Placements (40%),
Infrastructure (15%),
Intellectual Capital (15%) and
Industry Interface (5%). The total weightage assigned to objective data was 75%.
2) India Today: The magazine prepares a master list of 700 colleges in different streams - 400 of which are shorlisted based on perception of 90 experts such as college principals, HoDs and deans across 10 cities. A further shortlist of 210 colleges is prepared based on perceptual scores from 400 experts.Now, factual information is collected on these 210 colleges on parameters such as placement, infrastructure and faculty to get a factual score. Overall score is given by applying a 70: 30 weightage to perceptual and factual scores.So essentially, DQ gives 75% weightage to 'factual' data, of which placement is given maximum importance. India Today gives 70% weightage to perception data, so any relatively new college rarely makes it even to the 400 shortlist stage.A quick comparison of the top 20 Engg Colleges

IIT Delhi did not participate in the Dataquest ranking while BITS Pilani does not feature in India Today rankings because of an ongoing dispute between BITS and India Today. Offhand, I would say that while both rankings are flawed, India Today's is more flawed. GND Ludhiana comes in at no 19 while Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh does not feature at all. Again, from the little I know, UVCE would not be the top ranked engineering college in Karnataka after NIT Suratkal. IIIT kya cheez hai India Today is yet to learn...However, BITS Pilani featuring at no 15 below Thapar Institute and Punjab Engineering College (as per Dataquest) simply boggles the mind also. NSIT may have made huge leaps but surely can't rank at no 10 while DCE comes in at no 20!Both methods are flawed - so the challenge is to formulate a credible alternative.How JAM will be differentFirstly, the objective of the JAM Ratings is to guide the students who wish to choose an engineering college. And hence it will aim to cover 250-300 colleges across the country. In the current pecking order, the student's top choice is an IIT or BITS Pilani. If not successful, a highly ranked NIT would be the next choice. Now the question here is would I prefer an NIT Trichy or Suratkal to IIT Guwahati or Roorkee? If so, would that make sense for some particular streams?? Or is the 'IIT is after all IIT' kind of thinking make more sense.And what about say, DCE. Should a Delhi student opt for DCE over a top ranked NIT? What about NSIT vs NIT. And where does a IIIT Hyderabad figure in all this?I don't know the answers but that kind of detailing must be reflected in the JAM ratings. Next, is college more important than branch if all one has in mind ultimately is a software career?
Two years ago I did advise that but given that more and more colleges are getting good placements, I think that getting a branch of one's choice in a lesser known but 'decent' college may be advisable. We need some inputs on such issues as well.And yes, like rankings published by American magazines, a department wise ranking would be our goal. Thirdly, the real fight is in rating the hundreds of state level government and private colleges. This will be done statewise. Because 85% of the seats are filled by state quota and only 15% by AIEEE score. So for those of you who've raised questions about using 'peer group' ratings, rest assured this is one of the means of gathering data. Not the only one.We are considering putting the questionnaire online as well. However, that opens up the possibility of students of particular colleges trying to rig the exercise. Yet, I want this to be an open source project... ideas on how one can achieve that delicate balance are welcome!

Engineering College: Place where you’re punished for getting good HSC/JEE/CET marks.
Babe: After two years in Engineering, anything remotely female qualifies for that title.
Senior : Guy who got ragged as junior and wanna get some payback.
Fresher : Guy who has to ask where the canteen is…Really Dumb Fresher : Guy who asks a senior where the canteen is.
Really Really Dumb fresher: Guy who follows the senior to the canteen.
Ragging : The unfortunate fate of the previous idiot.Evasive action : Watch the juniors when any seniors come nearby.(No one runs faster than a fresher. NO ONE.)
Lectures : Waste of time. Physical presence is a must…only meant for sleeping, completing assignments & general TP.
Tuitions : What you take when you don’t waste enough time….Professor: Person paid to put students to sleep.
Vernac Prof : Unusual variant of previous individual who comes packaged with his own brand of English(”Now you check me our journal.” “You Out get from class.” “Are you Understand, Beta?”)
Practicals : 2 hours in which you watch the girls do yourexperiment, and usually destroy a considerable array of lab equipment.Hopeless Practical : The practical in which there are no girls in your group simply look blankly at each other, fiddle with the equipment, and finally copy the readings. (From the girls of course…).The Truth about exams….
Timing : When ur non-engineering GF/BF is free to enjoy while u slog with submissions & examsIrony: The guy who copied your entire paper passes and you flunk.
Critical Calculation: Summing up the marks you attempted worth in the exam…
KT: Makes you suicidal. The WAY of life… (by the way for who don’t know KT means Keep Trying)
Revivification: A cruel joke. (Results of which come after you give the KT exam).

It was the most beautiful day of my life. We were called on B.C. at 9.30 to check ‘navars’. After so many night practices it was a show day when we had to give our best. We checked each and every holder, bulb. Then we had a break and were asked to gather together at wharf at 2p.m.After 4.30 78th regatta actually started. And at 7.45 the moment came we were eagerly waiting for. Ninad(adva) roared “Punt No.2 Leave!!!!!!!!” , and I pushed my punt into the water of MULA.
When shape was floating in water commentary ,music started and Hrishikesh yelled “O.K. Battery operators lakshya dya, Next!!” And enormous shape of INDIA glowed by 16 punts’ navars on 12 volts. People went mad, they yelled, did whatever they could. Then link continued, various fabulous shape like octagon, flip, trains, diamonds, helicopter, pheonix, infinity, butterflies. After successful grand show we came to the wharf and shout “AWAA~~~~~~~~~~Z KUNACHA??? P.F.CHA”. We took batteries upstairs and joined the dancing crowd on energetic sound of DHOLS, TASHAS. We danced for nearly an hour, took photos. Just enjoyed every moment. Then our PFO gathered, firstly ANUP told us that he was given a moment he was waiting for 4 years, then SOHAIL said “AWAAAAAAAAAZ KNACHA?? PF CHA! ! MAZ KUNACHA???????? PF CHA! !”Then it was HRISHIKESH’S turn, he said “LAKSHYA ANCHER KADECH. PAN DOKI WAR ANI MANA THAT!!!!”
Then we danced with every PFO and gave them bumps. SHRINIVA sang summer 69,SHRIKANT came up with his SUSHILA and MAMA, MAYUR sang SWADESH, SHANTANU NINAD(U) sang DIL CHAHATA HAI,NUPUR sang MARATHI song. Then we had a dinner, ice cream .I chatted with SHRIKANT, SHRINIVAS, MAYUR for an hour. About 12.45 pm I left B.C. and returned home. In this way the most memorable day in my life came to an end. I shall never forget P.F. REGATTA 2006.
